DJ classes are back at Miyagi Records!
THIS SESSION IS LIMITED TO 5 STUDENTS, SO ACT FAST!
In this 5-week course designed for Beginners, students will explore song structure, BPM / tempo, audio frequencies and how to manipulate them, beat-matching, working with vinyl setups (turntables, a mixer, dj needles), and an intro to digital setups (a dj controller, and Serato), and curating a proper set. The goal is by the end of this course, you will attain or solidify the basic skills needed to begin your path as a DJ.
Graduation will be held at Miyagi Records where each student will perform a 30-45 minute DJ set at our weekly "Selector Saturdays" event.
In addition to gaining a new skill set, upon successful completion of the class you will also receive:
- A lifetime discount of 15% off - if you miss no more than one class, are regularly on time (no more than 5 minutes late), and perform your 30-45 minute set for graduation.
- A gateway to network and learn from the DJ’ing community in Chicago who are currently practicing and/or have performed regularly in their career.
- Opportunities to perform at Miyagi hosted/sponsored events and gatherings.
-
Access to our space and DJ setup in order to continue practicing your craft (if you don’t have turntables at home).

These classes are being offered on a sliding scale. The top tier price ($300) class ticket is the actual cost of the class. If you choose a ticket price below the top tier you are receiving a discount. The middle tier price ($250) is for those who are able to meet their basic needs* but have little-to-no expendable income. Paying for this class may qualify as a sacrifice but it would not create hardship. The basic tier price ($225) is for those who have difficulty meeting basic needs* and paying for this class would be a hardship.
Please be mindful that if you purchase a price at the lowest tier when you can truthfully afford the higher ticket prices, you are limiting access to those who need the gift of financial flexibility. Being honest with yourself and your financial situation when engaging with sliding scale practices grows strong and sustainable communities. It also respects the work of teachers and creators. THANKS FOR BEING PART OF AN EFFORT TO ADDRESS INEQUITY AND INEQUALITY IN OUR COMMUNITY!!
