Dig + Disconnect is Miyagi’s weekly Friday gathering meant for getting back to the point: slow listening, real-world skill-building, and community time. Rotating throughout each month we host Open Decks (D+D Edition) — a welcoming, low-pressure session where DJs and learners can practice transitions, try new blends, and build confidence on the decks (with other heads in the room, not a spotlight). You’ll also catch guest takeovers from local selectors, DJs, and community partners — special nights that bring fresh sounds, stories, and different ways of listening into the room. D+D is for crate-diggers, curious beginners, and seasoned heads alike..

Selector Saturdays is where we hand the turntables to a guest selector and let them stretch out — no requests, no pressure, no play the hits. In clubs and bars you usually get a version of a DJ built for the room. Here, you get the full range: the records they collect, study, and truly love. This program often features Miyagi Education grads stepping into the booth, sharing what they’ve been building, and going deep in their own voice — alongside seasoned local DJs and community partners. It’s a space for selectors to tell a story, and a space for listeners to slow down and take it in.

During our winter closure, we’ve been doing two big things: tightening up Miyagi Education and laying the groundwork for what comes next. That means formalizing our programs, getting our systems in place, and making space by clearing out the extras that naturally build up over time as a record store.

And now, we’re turning the purge into a purpose <3 Join us March 7–8 (12–4PM) for our 1st Annual Yard Sale + Miyagi Education Fundraiser. You’ll find 1000’s of records (LPs, 12s, 45s), CDs, tapes, books, VHS, DVDs, audio gear, ephemera, and a bunch of other shop treasures looking for new homes. Everything priced to go! ($.50-$2 hollers + ‘name your price’ on audio gear)

Why it matters: every dollar raised will go directly toward continuing to build out Miyagi Education — supplies, gear, and legal/administrative costs that help us keep programs accessible and sustainable as we expand. This supports our 2026 class slate: DJ 101, DJ 102, and Beats 101—and the larger mission of creating a community-minded pipeline for learning, practice, and creative career opportunities.
