[NOW HIRING] Brand Ambassador / Pop-Up Manager

About Miyagi

Miyagi is an independent record shop, archive, and education space on Chicago's South Side. We specialize in used vinyl collections, music culture, and thoughtful curation. Beyond our shop walls, we bring Miyagi to the people: markets, events, and vintage fairs across the city. We're looking for someone who loves music, loves talking to people about it, and can represent Miyagi out in the world.

Position Overview

The Brand Ambassador / Pop-Up Manager runs Miyagi's external retail presence at markets, events, and vintage fairs.

This role is the face of Miyagi at every pop-up. You'll set up and break down the booth, handle sales, and connect with customers over what they're digging for. You'll also point people toward our shop, online store, and education programs. This is a per-event position, and you'll work each event solo. We're looking for someone personable, dependable, and self-sufficient who can turn a table of crates into a real Miyagi experience.

Responsibilities

Depending on the event, responsibilities may include:

  • Transporting records, merchandise, and booth materials to and from events
  • Loading in and out crates of records (about 40 lbs each) and boxes of merchandise (about 50 lbs each)
  • Setting up, maintaining, and breaking down the booth
  • Running checkout and handling transactions
  • Engaging customers about their purchases and helping them find records they'll love
  • Directing customers to Miyagi's in-store and online shops
  • Sharing information about Miyagi's education programs when relevant
  • Fielding questions from people looking to sell their records and routing them to buying appointments
  • Capturing light content at events, such as photos and short stories, for Miyagi's socials
  • Keeping the booth clean, organized, and on-brand

Requirements

  • Valid driver's license and auto insurance
  • Reliable vehicle (a standard sedan is usually enough) or easy access to one
  • Ability to repeatedly lift 40–50 lbs
  • Availability for events, often on weekends

Nice to Have

  • Retail, vending, or customer service experience
  • Record knowledge or collecting experience
  • Connections to Chicago markets, fairs, and event organizers, and an eye for new pop-up opportunities
  • Comfort creating quick social content

Growth Opportunity

This role is designed as an entry point into Miyagi's growing retail and community presence.

As the organization grows, this position can develop into a lead role in external retail and partnerships or into a larger in-store retail role, depending on where Miyagi's needs land.

Reports To

The Executive Director or Store Manager.

Position Overview

The Collections Processing Assistant supports the day-to-day movement of inventory through Miyagi's Collections Operations department.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys organized, repetitive, detail-oriented work and wants to learn the behind-the-scenes process of running a modern record business. While an interest in vinyl is a plus, previous record knowledge is not required—we can teach that. We're looking for someone who is dependable, organized, comfortable working with computers, and excited to learn.

Responsibilities

Depending on training and experience, responsibilities may include:

  • Processing incoming record collections

  • Cleaning and preparing records for inventory

  • Entering inventory into Shopify and Discogs

  • Creating and editing online product listings

  • Photographing records when needed

  • Applying grading and pricing information provided by the Collections team

  • Organizing physical inventory and shelving listed records

  • Pulling and packing online orders

  • Maintaining accurate inventory records

  • Assisting with inventory audits and quality checks

  • Supporting production goals established by the Collections Operations team

Growth Opportunity

This role is designed as an entry point into Miyagi's growing Collections Operations department.

As the organization grows, team members will have opportunities to develop specialized skills in areas such as collection intake, grading, pricing, inventory systems, e-commerce operations, and fulfillment while working alongside experienced members of the Collections team.

Reports To

Initially, this position works directly with the Executive Director while training. As Collections Operations continues to develop, the role will transition to reporting within that department under its leadership.
