Miyagi Records 2-Year Anniversary
w/ ‘Chicago Beat Association’ Beat Battle

Overview:

The 2 year anniversary of Miyagi Records, a Chicago-based ‘Diggers’ vinyl shop, will feature the first-ever Chicago Beat Association beat battle. All genres welcome.

Produced in collaboration with Fess Grandiose of Open Beats, and Slot-A of Beat LoFi Social, the event consists of two phases - the preliminaries (hosted online) and the main event (in person at The Silver Room). Four finalists will compete at the main event - prizes awarded for 1st, 2nd, 3rd place, & Runner Up. Judges - Fess Grandiose, Slot-A, and Maker - will determine rankings. Prizes sponsored by Synth City, Miyagi Records, and Silver Room.

Also! We'll have a table jam-packed with vinyl for your digging pleasure. And shop staffers Duke Grip, Rudy De Anda, Shazam Bangles, and Trew will be spinning all-vinyl sets while the Beat Battle contestants are busy creating their music!

 

Main Event:

The Beat Battle will be structured as a 2-round ‘multi level’ bracket of 4 finalists, hosted irl 7/31/22 at The Silver Room in Hyde Park.

What makes this type of battle unique is the beats are created during the event. Contestants will have up to 4 hours to produce 2 beats - for use in Round 1 and the Finals.

Miyagi Records will provide the samples to be used for these beats. A package of .wav files will be distributed to all Finalists which will contain drum breaks, textures, and sound clips for looping and/or chopping.

Beats can be any style/genre, as long as the provided samples are used. No kits, just samples. Any type of DAW or hardware can be used to create the beats.

Judges determine rankings - 1st, 2nd, 3rd, Runner Up. Rankings will be announced, and prize packages will be distributed prior to the event’s close. Prizes are provided by Synth City, Miyagi Records, and The Silver Room.
